Insiders go off on 'ineffectual' Karine Jean-Pierre, 'desperate' attempt to sell Biden book
Published in News & Features
Political insiders are going scorched earth on former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre after she announced the arrival of her new book, which details a “broken” Biden administration and the alleged “betrayal” of the former president by the Democratic Party.
More than two dozen former Joe Biden officials told Axios that Jean-Pierre was a large part of the problem she’s said to describe in her upcoming book, titled “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines.”
One former White House official called the 50-year-old operative “one of the most ineffectual and unprepared people I’ve ever worked with.” They accused Jean-Pierre of not knowing “how to manage a team … or deliver a message,” and of creating “more problems than she solved.”
Another described the “astronomical” amount of time that was spent “spent coddling and appeasing” Jean-Pierre, which took attention away from the issues that really mattered.
White House insiders also allegedly had concerns that Jean-Pierre’s interest in being featured in magazines and making appearances on TV shows like “The View” interfered with her official responsibilities. Some staffers “felt torn between their administration duties and helping Jean-Pierre promote herself,” a former White House aide alleged.
A former Biden communications official called out the audacity Jean-Pierre has to now position herself as an outsider in a “desperate” attempt to sell books, when she has in fact enjoyed the perks of being close to the former president.
“It’s difficult to see how this is anything but a bizarre cash grab,” they said.
Despite what the insiders claim was widespread frustration with Jean-Pierre, they said they largely kept their concerns quiet. In particular, her close relationship with Jill Biden’s top aide, Anthony Bernal, made her seem “untouchable,” they said.
Jean-Pierre has not addressed Axios’ report.
“Independent” hits bookstores on Oct. 21. A description of the book vows it will offer insight into the “betrayal” that led to Biden dropping out of the presidential race last year, along with Jean-Pierre’s decision to leave the Democratic Party and embrace life as an Independent.
