CHICAGO — U.S. Geological Survey officials reported a 3.8 magnitude earthquake happened overnight near Ohlman in central Illinois.

The USGS said the quake happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. about 3 miles northeast of Ohlman, which is about 45 miles southeast of Springfield, and was felt in Sangamon and Christian counties.

As of Tuesday morning, no injuries had been reported due to the quake.

According to the Illinois State Geological Survey, earthquakes occur in Illinois about once every year. The last damaging earthquake happened in downstate Illinois in June 1987.
