Trump asks UFC's Dana White to be his next press secretary
Published in News & Features
President Donald Trump said he is offering the role of White House press secretary to UFC chief Dana White, asking him to “please take the job.”
It wasn’t clear if the offer was sincere. Trump said he had asked the “violent Fighter and Warrior” to bring “assistants,” attaching the names and photographs of famous cage fighters in the league to his social media post. Trump has previously joked about combat sports and the press corps.
He added that White would be “a Press Secretary like none other.”
Trump has been signaling that he plans to stand up to Democrats after the party won control of both chambers of Congress.
White posted a photo of himself behind the White House podium to his Instagram story with a caption reading, “On to the next chapter.”
The White House and White didn’t immediately respond to requests for comments and there was no information about whether White had actually accepted the post.
Earlier this year, White helped Trump stage a series of UFC fights on the White House lawn on the president’s 80th birthday.
Trump’s last press secretary, Katie Zacharia, held the job for five days before she was pushed out.
On Friday, Trump said Stephen Miller, the main architect of his hardline immigration policies, would replace his longtime chief of staff, Susie Wiles, in the wake of widespread Republican defeats in the midterm elections.
