NEW YORK — A stage version of the 1987 movie “Dirty Dancing” is coming to Broadway for the first time.
“Dirty Dancing: The Musical” waltzes into the Lena Horne Theatre on Feb. 12 for a limited run slated to end on Sept. 5.
“Your reservation at Kellerman’s awaits!” reads an advertisement to the show referencing the fictional Catskills resort where moviegoers saw sparks fly between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey nearly 40 years ago.
Annalese Starzec will take on the role of Frances “Baby” Houseman, who falls for hunky dance instructor Johnny Castle during an upstate family vacation. Blake Zelesnikar plays the role made famous by Swayze. The pair currently work together on the touring version of the show.
Swayze, who went on to become a major movie star after his “Dirty Dancing” performance, died from pancreatic cancer in 2009. He was 57.
Grey, 66, continues to work. She’s starred in television shows including “It’s Like, You Know…” and “Red Oaks.” In 2025 she appeared with Kelsey Grammer in the Julia Stiles written film “Wish You Were Here.”
“Dirty Dancing” won the Academy Award for Original Song with the hit tune “(I’ve had) The Time of My Life.” The movie’s soundtrack remains one of the bestselling of all time, according to Guinness World Records.
Director Lonny Price, who was in the 1987 film, is directing its musical adaptation.
A gala celebrating the film’s anniversary and its Broadway takeover is set for March 14. Presale tickets become available on Thursday, according to Playbill. General sales start Friday.
“Dirty Dancing” fans who can’t wait for 2027 can catch the touring version of the show in Detroit next week. That performance is also destined for Boston and Toronto before the end of the year
