Trump attacks Omar, blames Somali community for violence at Ohio rally

Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home on Monday.
Homeland Security Investigations agents conducted the search. The Department of Justice said in a statement that the raid was “part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation,” but provided no further details.
President Donald Trump remained silent on the raid until Monday night when he spoke at a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, to campaign for Sen. Jon Husted.
Trump called Omar “a disaster” who “came from a country without laws, without police, without military where all they do is shoot each other.”
Trump commented on recent gun violence that law enforcement attributed to Somali gangs and an arrest of an 18-year-old Somali American man who federal authorities accuse of plotting to carry out a mass shooting at the Mall of America.
Earlier in the day, Omar said, “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”
“I will not be silenced,” she added.
In response to a question about the law enforcement activity at Omar’s home, White House border czar Tom Homan told Fox Business Network that a search warrant was served, but he did not get into specifics.
Fox News reported first that the raid was connected to an investigation into the lawmaker’s immigration paperwork.
In November 2024, Omar was reelected to a fourth term representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, which includes Minneapolis and some surrounding suburbs.
Omar has frequently clashed with the Trump administration, and President Donald Trump has singled out Omar with repeated verbal and social media attacks.
