How to Use Abandoned Cart Discounts to Your Advantage

on

Published in The Bargain Hunters Playbook

One of the easiest ways to score a discount online is to take advantage of abandoned cart offers. Retailers hate to see potential sales slip away, so they often send follow-up emails with special discounts or free shipping to lure you back. This simple trick can save you 10% to 20% or more if you play it right.

The process is straightforward. Add the items you’re interested in to your cart, log into your account, and then close the tab without checking out. Many retailers track these abandoned carts and will reach out within 24 to 48 hours, offering you a discount or free shipping to complete your purchase.

To increase your chances of getting an offer, make sure you’re logged into your account and have opted in to receive promotional emails. Some stores are more aggressive with their abandoned cart emails than others, so it might not work every time, but it’s worth a shot.

If you really want to push your luck, try adding a few high-margin items to your cart, like accessories or smaller electronics. These are often the products retailers are most eager to move, making them more likely to trigger a follow-up discount.

Finally, consider using this trick strategically around major sales events like Black Friday or Cyber Monday, when retailers are especially motivated to close sales. With a little patience and a bit of game-playing, you can turn a casual browsing session into real savings.
