DETROIT — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced before Tuesday night’s game against the Tigers that the results of both a CT scan and an MRI showed no structural damage in Eugenio Suarez’s right hand. He was not in the lineup Tuesday but is not expected to need an IL stint.

“I reached out to Torey (Lovullo, Diamondbacks manager) and checked on Geno,” Tigers manager AJ Hinch said. “Just wanted to offer support and good thoughts his way. Everybody loves Geno, everyone who’s ever been around him. It’s just in the best interests of the game that we have our best players on the field and not dealing with a freak injury like that.”

Suarez, who is arguably the most sought-after position player on the trade market, was hit in the right hand by a 96-mph fastball from Tigers reliever Will Vest Monday night.

"It’s all very good news,” Lovullo told reporters, including Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic, before the game. “He went for a CT scan today, which gets very bone-specific. That was negative, too. I spoke with him before he left last night and he was going to be optimistic, and he got the news that we were looking for."

Suarez has 36 home runs, 87 RBIs and an .898 OPS. The trade deadline is Thursday at 6 p.m.
